Why Use an Epson printer for sublimation printing
Understanding sublimation printers and what they are can be a little tricky. Here we have tried to simplify the subject by breaking down the key points in order for our customers to better understand what they are buying. To understand why Epson printers require a little basic understanding of what sublimation ink is and how it works. A simple way of explaining this would be to state that sublimation ink has inert particles within the ink that can only become active after heat is applied to the ink. This is why a heat press is required to transfer an image or design from sublimation transfer paper.
What happens when heat is applied to the ink
When heat is applied to a printed design on transfer paper, the ink is converted to a gaseous state. The design is transferred into sublimation coating, for instance, the coating on a mug and it reforms into a solid state as it cools.
If heat is applied to sublimation ink as it is printing, the sublimation process would start in the printer and on the transfer paper. It would block printheads quite quickly.
Why Epson Printers
Epson printers use vibrations to push ink through their Micro Piezo print heads, they do not use heat. They sell this as heat-free print technology. Several other printer manufacturers use Epson's Micro Peizo printheads but HP and Canon do not. They use heat to push ink through their print heads.
Any Epson desktop inkjet printer can be used as a sublimation printer because No heat is used in the print process.

About The Printer
The XP-2200 is an A4, 4-colour multi-function printer with print, scan, and copy features. Connectivity is via USB and WiFi and the paper feed is rear-fed. Print resolution is high up to 5760 dpi producing very high-quality images. The XP-2200 supports MOBILE DEVICES through apps, although HobbyPrint® recommends using the printer with a computer or laptop for sublimation printing.
