Sending Images for Printing – What You Need to Know
When sending images for printing on Photo Slates, mugs, T-shirts and similar products, it’s important to follow a few simple guidelines to ensure the best print quality, correct sizing, and accurate positioning. Below are some easy tips to help you get the results you want.
1. Print Quality
Print quality mainly depends on the file size and resolution of your image.

If the file size is too small, the image resolution will also be low. This means the printer has to stretch the pixels, which leads to a blurry or “pixelated” print.

Image resolution is measured in DPI (Dots per Inch) or PPI (Pixels per Inch). Higher resolution means more detail, resulting in sharper, clearer prints with smooth edges and better colour transitions.
In short:

A small file cannot be enlarged without losing quality.

A large file can always be reduced to the correct size.
Recommended File Size:
For Mugs, T-shirts, and 20cm x 30cm Photo Slates, a JPG or PNG between 4MB and 10MB is usually perfect. Larger files are also fine.
How to Check Your File Size

Windows: Right-click the image file → Properties

Mac: Open the file → Tools → Show Inspector / File Size
2. Aspect Ratio (Image Shape)
The shape of your image matters.

A square image won’t naturally fit a rectangular Photo Slate without cropping or stretching.

Likewise, a rectangular image won’t fit a square slate without losing parts of the image.

The same applies when printing a circular design — parts of the image will be cropped to fit the circle.
Tip:
Always choose or crop your image to match the shape of the item you’re printing on. Ensure that any important faces, details, or text remain within the printable area after cropping.

- Select the Photo Slate printed finish from the options dropdown, "Gloss" or "Matte"
- Rename your selected Image to include your surname within the file name, for example, "Smith_1.jpg"
- Upload the image that you require to be printed onto the Photo Slate
- Add any instruction text that you wish to add in the Customer Instruction area
- Click the "add to cart" button, check out and pay.
We will do the rest. Your Canvas will be printed and on its way to you within 48 hours.
